Board Breaking Competition
With the September National Tournament in Winston-Salem, NC just a few weeks away, most families will be unable to attend the main event. However, all of our students are eligible to participate in the Board Breaking Competition that is set to take place at our TKD school on Friday, September 9th at 7:15 PM. Each student will get 3 attempts on their 5 stations to break the techniques listed in the flyer. You can sign up for the competition anytime until the competition begins!
Tournaments are an integral aspect of training for all martial artists which is why we require all of our students to attend at least one tournament before testing for the rank of Black Belt. National Tournaments take that experience to a whole new level by giving students the opportunity to test their skills against students of similar age and experience from all across the country! Taekwondo America provides a fantastic event with these national tournaments and I recommend all students of any rank and age to attend.
Tournaments are a fantastic motivational tool for students since unlike baseball, football, and soccer we don’t have a game every week. In fact, there are only two National Tournaments a year (every January and September). Competing against unfamiliar faces that you don’t see every day in class in front of a panel of judges provides an inimitable learning experience for students that can take their training to a whole new level. And there is no grander way to experience that than at a national tournament!
There are several competitions to participate in for this tournament. The standard competition includes Forms and Sparring/One-step Competitions. You can also opt to compete in the Board Breaking Competition, Freestyle Forms, and Team Sparring! More information can be found on the Taekwondo America website or via the registration link below!
Our school will be closed for classes September 15th & 16th for the tournament
KICK-A-THON for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
Since we opened our Taekwondo school in February 2020, we’ve always strived to be active in assisting our community. One of the ways we plan on doing so is by closing out every month in 2022 with charitable works.
This month, we’re hosting a Kick-A-Thon to raise money for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital! We’re asking our students to get donations from friends, family, parent’s coworkers, etc. to help kick cancer’s butt. Most of us have seen/heard/participated in a Walk-A-Thon, this is very similar but with a martial arts flair. We’ll attach donation forms to the weekly emails leading up to the event as well as have a stack available for students to grab when coming into class.
The Kick-A-Thon will be open to non-students as well. If our students have friends and family members that would like to see how many kicks they can muster up for a good cause, we’d love to have them join us. We recommend kick donations for 1 – 5 cents per kick as you can expect to do anywhere from 500 – 1,500 kicks!
Out Kick-A-Thon will take place on Friday, September 23rd from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the TKD school in lieu of regular classes. TKD uniforms and attire are not required, but will be encouraged in order to help you do as much kicking as possible.
